As the holiday season comes to a close, it’s time to start thinking about the New Year and the new goals that you want to set for yourself. Getting back into a routine can be difficult after a break filled with family time, socializing, and the delicious food and drinks seem to constantly be present. It’s more than likely the main reason that losing weight is at the top of everyone’s list of New Year’s resolutions. As you enter into the New Year, let Balance Yoga Center in San Jose help you ease back into a workout routine that will help you reach your weight loss and fitness goals. In today’s blog, we’ll offer some helpful tips to make working out part of your everyday routine again. When you’re done, be sure to check out the Welcome Special that we offer for new members — get a month of unlimited classes at our studio for only $49!
Even if you were hitting the gym four or five times a week before the holidays hit, it’s important to ease back into it if you took even a week or two off. Your body will be well-rested, yes, but trying to workout at the same intensity as you did before the break can create a higher risk of injury. Let your body and muscles get used to the movements again by easing into your first workout of the year. Start with a beginner’s yoga class or a walk on a treadmill to warm up and stretch out your muscles. From there you can work up to a light jog, spin class, or a hot yoga class at Balance Yoga Center’s studio in San Jose.
Commit to Something Small
One classic trick when you’re getting yourself back into a workout routine is to set small goals for yourself — and we mean small. Commit to five minutes. We know that you can do anything for five minutes, and accomplishing that first goal will work wonders. With that sense of accomplishment, you’ll be ready to set bigger and better goals as you continue working out. Even if your goal is to sign-up for a new gym or explore different exercise classes in your area, schedule that time in your day and make it happen! It’s easy to skip that first workout when you aren’t prepared for it. One way to make sure you get that first workout in is to prepare for it a day in advance. Maybe you’re heading back to work after the holiday break and you need to figure out how you can fit a workout into your schedule. Think about it the day before and then get ready for it. If you’re going to tackle that workout before you start your workday, pack your gym bag at night. Lay out your workout clothes and showering essentials so that you have everything you need ready to go. If you want to take a yoga class, sign up the day before for the best time that works with your schedule and make sure you have everything you need to bring to the studio! When you prepare your mind and your surroundings, your body will follow, and it will be that much easier to tackle your workout.
At Balance Yoga Center in San Jose, we know that the first workout after a little break can be the hardest to get into. That’s why we encourage you to start slow and work your way back into it, setting small goals and crushing them as you go!
